Accelerated Reader Quiz Search Tips
The following information may help you find AR quizzes for books you've read.
Preliminary Notes
- Book lists are returned in alphabetical order by title
- Spaces and punctuation count! You cannot have extra spaces nor leave out commas nor apostrophes.
- Exact match is probably too limiting as it must be "exact" without errors.
Title Search
1. Have the book in front of you. It makes it easier.
2. Title - Ignore the "A" or "The" at the begininng
- Click on in the "Title" bubble and "Starts with"
- Type the first word after "A" or "The"
- Click "Search"
- Find the book in the list
- Click on the title
3. Too many book titles?
There are three ways to handle this problem:

a) Not the best way...
- Click the little "Next" in the right corner just above the list and look through the list (not the best way)
b) A better way
- Add a the word just after the word you entered
- Click "Search" again
- Find the book in the list
- Click on the title
c) An equally good way
- Find an unusual word in the title, i.e., a proper name, place or unusual verb

- Click on in the "Title" bubble and "Contains"
- Type the unusual word
- Click "Search"
- Find the book in the list
- Click on the title
4. Books by the same title?
- Find the book titles in the list
- Look across the rows to find the book with the correct author
- Click on the title
Try the Author Search tips if Title search fails.
Author Search
1. Have the book in front of you. It makes it easier.
2. Author - Use the last name only
- Click on in the "Author" bubble and "Last Name Starts With" (the system will ignore everything in the Title and Quiz Number fields)
- Type the Author's last name
- Click "Search"
- Find the book in the list
- Click on the title
3. Too many books by this author?
- Try the Title Search tips using hint #3c using "Contains".
Try the AR Bookfinder tips if Author and Title searches fail.
Series Books
The problems you'll find with series books are:
- not all books in the same series contain the series name in the tile in the AR quiz lists
- books are often written by different authors
1. Have the book in front of you. It makes it easier.
2. Try an Author Search (see above)
3. Try the Title Search tips using hint #3c using "Contains".

Quiz Number
This is the easiest way to find a quiz.

1. Some Grant library and classroom books have an AR label with the quiz number.
- Find the Quiz Number on the label
- Click on in the "Quiz Number" bubble
- Type the quiz number in the box
- Click "Search"
- Find the book in the list
- Click on the title
2. Use AR Bookfinder to find your book.
- Write down the Quiz Number.
- Return to Renaiisance Place
- Click on in the "Quiz Number" bubble
- Type the quiz number in the box
- Click "Search"
- Find the book in the list
- Click on the title
AR Bookfinder Hints
The search engine in the "Quick Search" appears to search across titles, author, and description fields. This makes it easy to find some series books easier.
Use AR Bookfinder to:
- Find quiz numbers for any book
- Find the actual title or quiz number for a series book
- Create book lists using the AB Bookbag feature (remember to print your list because it does not save it when you exit.)
Use AR Bookfind Advanced Search to:
- Narrow books to a specific
- interest level (what is appropriate for your child with respect to content) and
- book level (the book level or ZPD) - how difficult the book is to read)
- Narrow books to
- Topic
- Subtopic
- Fiction or Non-Fiction
- Find quizzes that have been created in the last 7 to 180 days.
